Echo in the Vineyards

Education and Community Engagement Programs

As part of our mission, Music in the Vineyards is dedicated to enriching people’s lives through the power of music, including providing music education and participatory experiences to people of all ages and walks of life. In addition to our regular festival concerts and educational offerings, we also offer the following opportunities to engage with music here in the Napa Valley.

Free Open Rehearsals

We offer open rehearsals throughout the festival free of charge for the community. These open rehearsals prove to be really popular every year and aim to give patrons an insight into how the musicians prepare for their performances. Held on Thursday afternoons, the open rehearsals feature repertoire which is to be performed in concerts on the weekend following the rehearsals. We usually have rehearsals taking place in at least two rooms and patrons are welcome to move from room to room during the afternoon. Everyone is welcome regardless of age, there is plenty of seating and the musicians look forward to sharing their work with you.

Pre-Concert Talks

Held on Wednesdays, during the festival, we offer pre-concert talks for select concerts. These events are free and open for ticket-holders and take place immediately preceding the concert(s).

 Student Masterclass

Our Student Masterclass is an open event organized each year for students from the Napa Valley Youth Symphony and the Paulin Center for the Arts during our festival. Both individuals and pre-formed groups attending the event are asked to share their repertoire with us prior to the masterclass. Artistic Director Michael Adams and our pre-selected Fellowship String Quartet  give both technical and personal advice and feedback to the young musicians.

Family play-along

In the last two years we have designed a very successful special participatory concert series for people for all ages and  walks of life, where we not only feature festival musicians in works by the greatest composers, but the audience has the chance to perform with the world-class musicians to join them in playing Johann Pachelbel’s beautiful Canon and more.

Retirement Home Concerts

Each year our pre-selected Fellowship String Quartet give interactive performances to retirement communities in the valley, presenting to music lovers who can no longer travel to performances. We started this program in 2015 and enjoy the relationships we’ve made at The Meadows of Napa Valley, Rianda House, Aegis of Napa, Silverado Orchards of St Helena and The Watermark. This program was cut back during the pandemic but got back to full capacity in 2023.
